Washing powder and liquid detergent, who is the winner
The dispute between washing powder and liquid detergent has been around for a long time. If they contain the same ingredients and perform the same job, what are the reasons why washing powder manufacturers create different products? The problem of washing powder VS liquid washing powder seems to be superfluous at first glance. However, even though they may look the same-changes in function, efficiency and quality will eventually produce different cleaning results.

The road to the invention of washing products started with water, then saponins, and then various soap innovations. Later someone invented washing powder. The invention of laundry detergent appeared decades later.

Let us see the reason for the battle between washing powder and liquid detergent. We will carefully compare the key points, similarities and differences, as well as their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Washing powder VS liquid washing powder: let's start from the basics
First, let us define these two products. These two product types are very similar in definition.
What is laundry detergent?
Liquid detergent is a term that refers to many different cleaning products. What they have in common is the liquid form. Liquid detergents designed for laundry and their powder counterparts share many active ingredients, but the final performance depends on the formulation and manufacturing method. The list of components and their proportions determine the best use of the product, as well as its quality, efficiency, and even price tags.
What is washing powder?
Washing powder is a dehydrated soap suitable for hand washing and machine washing. It is a more traditional washing solution than liquids and is usually more affordable. Powder detergents have proven effective against certain types of "stubborn" stains, and many formulations have been developed to support specific uses.

Washing powder VS liquid washing powder: what they have in common
Both detergent types are designed to remove stains on various fabrics and can be used for any type of washing. Most formulas contain the same or similar types of ingredients.

The builders in detergents play the same role as traditional detergents such as lye and fatty acids. These are the key ingredients in the manufacture of detergent base materials. Plasticizers can also emulsify fat, increase the efficiency of other ingredients, and affect minerals in hard water. Some of the most commonly used builders in the detergent manufacturing industry are STPP (sodium tripolyphosphate), caustic potassium (potassium hydroxide), and caustic soda (sodium hydroxide).

Surfactant
The role of surfactants is to enhance the foaming power of the final formulation and break down stains, making them washable. Combinations of anionic and nonionic surfactants are often used to maximize the efficiency of detergents.
SLES is one of the most common anionic surfactants, and it is effective in hard water. LABSA is widely used in the detergent manufacturing industry because of its economical benefits and high efficiency. (AEO 9) is a highly effective advanced surfactant, recommended for washing sensitive fabrics, (CAB) is a popular sulfate-free reagent. Cocamide Diethanolamine (CDA, Cocamide DEA) is a mild non-ionic surfactant with conditioning properties.

Enzyme
The ingredients that make powder and liquid detergents more effective than ever are enzymes. They focus on specific soils in order to break them down into cleanable molecules. As efficiency increases, formulas containing enzymes shorten the process and allow washing at lower temperatures.
Common enzyme series include protease, lipase, amylase, and a new generation of environmentally friendly compounds with outstanding sustainability.
Auxiliary ingredients
pH adjuster-Determine the acidity or alkalinity of the formulation so that it is suitable for targeted use. Reagents such as sodium metasilicate pentahydrate have multiple functions, including emulsification, purification, and dispersion.

Fluorescent brightener-visual enhancer, no need to use irritating bleaching agent.
Anti-redeposition agent-prevents dirt from redepositing on the cleaned fabric.
Foam-prevents surfactants from damaging the washing machine.
Color spots-visual enhancer, increase the identity of the product.
Processing aids-ingredients such as sodium sulfate will affect the density of the formulation and inhibit caking.
Perfume-covers chemical and dirt odors.

Powder VS liquid laundry detergent: the main difference
Now we have reached the critical part. Let us look at the main differences between these two products.
Manufacturing process
There are three standard methods for producing powder detergent formulations. One is the blender (dry mixing) process. Another method, called agglomeration, involves cutting the material into small pieces, spraying it with liquid parts, and then heating and crushing to form unique particles. The third and most reliable process is the slurry method, in which the compound is dried and filtered using hot air distribution in a spray drying tower. The last step of any method includes post-processing to complete the product.
Liquid detergent production can be manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic, and is divided into four key steps. The first step is to form a matrix by metering and mixing all the main ingredients, and then add supporting ingredients. The substance then passes through the filtering process and is then ready for packaging and labelling lines.

Price tag
This is one of the important reasons why many people choose washing powder. On average, it costs less than liquid laundry detergents, detergent boxes and similar solutions. However, the price itself does not always show the actual value of the product, so it is best to also consider the cost per load.
For example, the price of economical packaging is higher, but the number of washes the user gets from a bag will bring a return. In addition, both liquid and powder detergents are available in concentrated versions, which produce the same economic effect by using fewer products in one wash.
Although liquid and powder laundry detergents come in different packaging, economical laundry detergent packaging is more common. Liquid detergents usually come in the form of a variety of concentrated solutions in regular-sized bottles.
It is important to distinguish between standard liquid concentrate formulations and modern HE detergents. High-efficiency cleaners are designed to improve the environmental aspects of the process. They produce less foam, allowing the washing machine to run at its highest level using less water. HE detergent is a must-have for special high-efficiency washing machines, but it can also be used in many standard top-load washing machines.

Washing machine safety
Now, what is safer to use in washing machines, liquid or powder detergents? Liquid formulations have some advantages over powdered detergents at this point, but in the final analysis, it all depends on the quality of the finished product. Powders usually contain more chemicals that tend to clump; therefore, their residues may cause some problems over time. Liquid detergents do not accumulate in the drainage system-however, their excess or low-quality ingredients may cause foam leakage and other troubles.
On average, powder detergents are less likely to cause mold growth, while liquid detergents pose a lower risk to pipes. In addition, certain models of front-mounted washing machines are only designed for washing powder.
